How Propane Fuels Emergency Services During California’s Largest Wildfires

In times of crisis, the resilience and readiness of communities and their support systems are put to the test. Propane, often recognized for its everyday utility in homes and businesses, proves to be an indispensable resource during emergencies. This July, as the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County became the largest wildfire in California for the year at that point in time, the versatility and reliability of propane were once again spotlighted.

This vast reach demanded an extraordinary response from brave firefighters and supporting personnel working around the clock to protect our communities. With containment increasingly difficult, the role of support services became even more crucial.

Delta Liquid Energy Lake Fire Propane’s importance in emergency scenarios stems from its reliability and versatility. It can be used to power everything from heating and cooking equipment to generators that maintain critical operations when other fuel sources may not be available. On July 11th, just days after the fire began, Delta Liquid Energy (DLE) set up a propane tank to power CAL FIRE‘s mobile kitchen at their temporary base at the Santa Maria Speedway. This setup was vital for sustaining the firefighting crew, powering a kitchen that served 1,500 breakfasts and 600 dinners daily, managed by local inmates. Our tanks remained at the camps for about two weeks, supporting the ongoing firefighting efforts.

Additionally, at the main base camp located at the Elks Rodeo Grounds, Thunder Mountain Catering provided meals for 2,500 firefighters, supported by propane-powered facilities. The camp also featured essential services like laundry (Exceptional Fire Services) and showers (AAA Mobile Solutions), all powered by propane, ensuring that firefighters could return to the frontlines refreshed and refueled.

Delta Liquid Energy was working hard delivering propane every other day to keep these critical operations running. This personal commitment underscores the role of local businesses like DLE in supporting frontline workers during natural disasters.

The Lake Fire highlighted not only the bravery of our firefighters but also the critical support roles that infrastructure and fuel play in managing emergencies. Propane’s role as a reliable and versatile energy source makes it invaluable in crisis situations, providing a lifeline when it is most needed. At Delta Liquid Energy, we are proud to support our community’s heroes and remain committed to preparing and providing for any emergency with dependable propane services.
